There are many ways that someone can gain knowledge, and many people gain knowledge in a variety of ways at a variety of speeds. I think that my greatest challenge will be the fact that I am a kinesthetic learner.
I have found that so far our assignments have been ‘hands-on’ creating word clouds and power-point presentations which is something that interests me a lot and I find great joy in them. Other things such as listening to lectures and reading articles are going to be a bigger struggle if I am honest as that is not how I learn best but it is through a combination of all of these that the greatest learning will occur. You cannot learn everything hands on, some things you have to read to gain an understanding first and then you are able to apply the knowledge you have gained.
I have worked a lot with having my students use a ‘community of learners’ approach to their learning and it is my hope that this approach will be used throughout the program with discussions and collaboration. This will help everyone gain an understanding of many different thoughts and opinions which will deepen learning in my opinion. I think that using colleagues and professors to bounce around ideas with is a great place to be open and honest and take chances which is the only way you are able to create your own path.
The journey is one that I have to take on my own, I will make my own understandings and forge my own path but will I allow others to support me and collaborate with me along the way, or will I think that I can do it all by myself?
